We were approached by the executor of an estate who had concerns about the legal and tax advice he was receiving from his current solicitors.

On reviewing the file it became clear that the Inheritance Tax papers had not been completed correctly with some potential exemptions remaining unclaimed. This had resulted in an overpayment of Inheritance Tax in excess of £40,000.

We undertook the preparation of a HMRC rectifying account claiming all the correct Inheritance Tax exemptions and after negotiations with HMRC were able to obtain a full refund of this amount.
