Solicitors raise a glass to successful brewery saleA remote Lake District brewery will no longer have to call last orders, thanks to the work of Clarke Mairs.
Carlisle-based liquidator Lindsay Farrer of Saint and Co. Chartered Accountants enlisted the help of Clarke Mairs to assist with the sale of the Whitehaven Brewing Company. The company, also known as the Ennerdale Beers, went into liquidation last month, and the business needed to be sold as soon as possible in order to continue trading. Clarke Mairs successfully completed the sale in a Dutch auction with two competing buyers. This has enabled the brewery to keep on the same brewer and to continue trading as normal from its Cumbrian home. Lindsay Farrer of Saint and Co said: “We have worked with Clarke Mairs in the past, and know of their expertise in this process, so the firm was our first port of call when we were appointed liquidators. The sale was handled swiftly and efficiently and we were very pleased to see the brewery remain intact.” The brewery, based in a picturesque, remote location in Ennerdale, started trading in 2006 with three members of staff. It now produces six varieties of beer, which are sold throughout the North West, the most popular being Ennerdale Blonde. Tim Clarke, partner at Clarke Mairs, said: “We strongly believe in protecting these breweries, especially in the challenging climate. We handled the purchase of Matfen’s High House Farm Brewery last year and we are now delighted that, thanks to the successful sale of Ennerdale Beers, the company can continue to brew and trade as normal.” |
