Clarke Mairs expands to provide the personal touch
A solicitor is using her wealth of experience to launch a new private client division at Clarke Mairs. The firm is welcoming Alexandra Bartrope to the team to head up its newly launched Private Client department. Alexandra will deal with Wills, Probate and Estate Administration, Lasting Powers of Attorney, estate planning and wealth management, drafting and the management of Trusts, Court of Protection Applications, care home planning and contentious Probate matters. Alexandra joins the firm from local solicitors Browell Smith and Co., where she worked as a private client lawyer and was with the firm for almost nine years, after studying a four year LLB Law course at Northumbria University. Alexandra is a student member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). She said: “I was really impressed by the reputation of Clarke Mairs as a commercial law firm and so when they approached me to set up this new area to their practice, I was absolutely delighted to become part of a growing company and I’m looking forward to the challenge of leading a brand new division.” Tim Clarke, senior partner at Clarke Mairs, said: “We’ve considered launching a Private Client division since we set up the firm, to reflect the need for expert advice for our commercial clients when they consider their personal matters, on issues such as inheritance tax andestate planning. “We had started to refer this work to Alex so it wasn’t a difficult decision to approach her – we already knew she had the expertise and, very importantly, the character we wanted. The time was right to expand our services and we have no doubt that Alexandra’s skills and expertise will prove to be an asset to our growing team.” Local lawyer sweats it out for a good cause
A sporty Clarke Mairs solicitor is taking part in a variety of gruelling sports activities in order to raise money for a local cause. Ronan Butler, a commercial litigation solicitor is competing in a variety of events for the Percy Hedley Foundation and has so fair raised £1500, along with a contribution from Clarke Mairs. The Percy Hedley Foundation was established in 1953 as a small charitable school designed to help children with cerebral palsy. Now the foundation provides care and assistance to over 1000 families a year, including both children and adults with communication impairments, sensory impairments and complex learning, therapeutic and social needs. Ronan is now raising money towards the construction of a brand new hydrotherapy pool at the charity’s Killingworth site, which will create a multi sensory and fun environment for children and assist in their development. The pool will be used in conjunction with the Percy Hedley Sports Academy and will be the centre for Halliwick Association of Swimming Therapy (AST), which teaches independent swimming and confidence in the water to disabled people using the Halliwick technique. The charity is hoping to begin work on the pool in January 2011 and the project is expected to cost around £1.2million. It is scheduled to be completed in time for the Paralympic Games in London the following year and the charity also hopes to attract teams to the North East for pre-games training. Ronan has been fundraising for the charity in conjunction with Clarke Mairs, and the next event he will be competing in is the Iron Man in Switzerland this coming July which consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile run, all in aid of the Percy Hedley Foundation. Des Bustard, fundraising director at Percy Hedley Foundation said: “We are extremely grateful to Clarke Mairs and to Ronan for the fantastic work they have been doing to raise money for our cause. The addition of the new hydrotherapy pool will allow greater numbers of people access to the comfort that hydrotherapy can bring. In warm water the restrictions placed on people by their disabilities are reduced, giving the opportunity for free movement, exercise and relaxation in a multi-sensory, fun environment.” To make a donation to the charity, please send a cheque payable to Percy Hedley Foundation to Des Bustard, director of fundraising, Percy Hedley Foundation, Hampeth Lodge, Station Road, Forest Hall, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE12 8YY, donate online at www.percyhedley.org.uk/timcarter, or telephone (0191) 2381302. It’s great news for the region. “If any business owner would like more information or advice about the scheme, we encourage them to get in touch with us.
